RtC Adventurers
An adapted version of the RtC programme, aimed at older and more adventurous children. The RtC Adventurers Programme ups the challenge with activities, such as Kayaking, canoeing, and climbing.
Who is the programme for?
-
Children needing support with Social and Emotional literacy
-
Children needing support with Mental Health needs; those needing time and space away from the typical school environment
-
School staff wishing to build and develop stronger connections with the child they support

Programme Overview
Using nature and local landscapes, and aspects of the Forest School pedagogy, along with our Emotional Literacy Support Assistant trained staff; the RtC Adventurers programme delivers its objectives through practical activities that support SEMH needs. Groups are kept small to provide intimacy and support. Children are encouraged to identify their needs and work towards learning new skills and ways of being in order to meet them.
Programme Aims
-
Develop the essential supportive relationship between the child and their Adult Support
-
Develop social and emotional literacy skills through engagement in challenging and thought provoking experiences
-
Build a positive concept of self, increase self-esteem and confidence through competence in new skills
-
Support mental health and wellbeing with a connection to people, place and nature.
A Shared Experience
An essential element of the RtC Adventurers programme is the shared experience between the child and their adult support. Children are accompanied by an adult from their school setting that takes an active part in the child's journey, working with them on tasks and activities, joining in the activities and setting an example by getting as equally dirty, messy and wet.
Sharing the journey allows the supporting adult to:
-
Develop a stronger relationship through shared experiences
-
gain a deeper understanding of their child's strengths, skills and abilities beyond school
-
Experience alternative approaches to teaching, learning and behavioural support that can be transferred back to the school setting
-
Gain practical outdoor learning skills and experience that can continue support back at school
