Intervention & Nurture

Our Intervention and Nurture programmes utilise four simple but effective elements to deliver positive re-engagement in learning and promote positive behaviour in your child.

The therapeutic setting of the outdoors

The outdoors and woodland landscapes provide a place for adventure; spaces that afford authenticity and risk, where children can practice agency and master the environment. Additionally, these immersive environments offer opportunities for children to experience awe, wonder, and the beauty of the outdoors, helping them to better understand the world and their place in it.

The Forest School pedagogy

The Forest School Pedagogy* advocates a holistic approach, of child-centered, child-led teaching and learning. Children are encouraged to understand and manage risk, to make connections with place and people and become independent learners. Our programmes utilise this pedagogy to deliver stimulating, engaging and liberating educational experiences.

Experiential Education

Learning through action and reflection. Children are encouraged to learn through practical hands-on activities, where the process is the focus, and success and failure are equally celebrated as learning achievements. Importantly, children are encouraged to reflect on their actions to create meaning and to use that meaning to help plan for future success.

Positive Attachments

A cornerstone of our Intervention and Nurture programmes is the use of positive emotional attachments to support children through their programme, and more importantly back in their school environment. Each child is required to be accompanied by a Support Worker from their school with whom they would usually work. Accompanying Support Workers are encouraged to experience the programme alongside the child, immersing themselves in the activities, joining in games, and getting just as muddy as the children. This joint experience encourages a child to create a positive attachment through shared experience and camaraderie. Additionally, behavioural management strategies and positive methods of engagement that are experienced during a programme can more easily be transferred back to school, helping the child and Support Worker back in the classroom.
